Accessibility statement for Walsall Webforms

This website is run by Walsall Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand. AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • colour relied upon to communicate necessary information
  • file upload is not programmatically determined
  • keyboard focus does not fully align with the user process
  • autocomplete attributes are not defined when collecting personal information

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Webpages

  1. Form fields are not programmatically associated with the group legend. This affects users who rely on assistive technologies to understand the relationship between form fields and their grouping. This fails WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 1.3.1 Info & Relationships. We plan to amend this by October 2025.
  2. Character count update is not programmatically defined for form fields. This affects users who rely on assistive technologies to receive dynamic feedback while typing. This fails WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 1.3.1 Info & Relationships. We plan to amend this by October 2025.
  3. Autocomplete attributes are not used for fields collecting personal information. This affects users by reducing efficiency and increasing the likelihood of input errors. This fails WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose. We plan to amend this by October 2025.
  4. Colour is relied upon to communicate stepper information. This affects users with visual impairments or colour vision deficiencies, as they may not be able to perceive the step progression. This fails WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 1.4.1 Use of Color. We plan to amend this by October 2025.
  5. The file upload component has no programmatic call-to-action. This affects users relying on assistive technologies, as they may not be aware of the purpose or action required to upload a file. This fails WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 4.1.3 Status Messages. We plan to amend this by October 2025.

  • a mixture of simple manual checks and automated tests to find only the most common barriers to users with accessibility needs
  • manual checks using each page without a mouse, viewing the page at different zoom settings, and simulating viewing the page on a small screen The automated tests were completed using the latest version of Axe and WAVE.
